Living Out Christian Spirituality in Patient Care: One Nurse Practitioner's Experience

ABSTRACT: Researchers have found that spiritual care of patients is important to healing. For Christian healthcare providers, spiritual care is a natural extension of their faith and life. Although not all patients have Christian beliefs, healthcare providers, when appropriate, can provide Christian perspectives to bring patients comfort during the stress of illness. In this article, a family nurse practitioner working with cancer patients shares how she lives out her spirituality in everyday nurse practitioner practice.

Anjali R. David, FNP-BC, is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. At the time of writing this article, she worked in Radiation Oncology Department at faith-based Loma Linda University Health in California. She now works at the School of Nursing, Loma Linda University Health. Spirituality is an important part of her life and patient care.
