In Brief:
The Social Vulnerability Index, a validated metric of social disparity, was integrated as a predictor variable into the Surgical Risk Preoperative Assessment System (SURPAS). This did not affect the model’s performance of predicting adverse postoperative outcomes. Thus, variables in SURPAS already account for social disparity.
