The University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine will offer “Occupational and Environmental Medicine Respiratory Disease” on March 27, 2008, and an “Occupational and Environmental Medicine Update” on March 28–29, 2008, at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway Hotel in San Francisco, Calif.
These courses will provide the experienced clinician with a review of clinical toxicology, epidemiology, and the evaluation of occupational and environmental diseases and injuries with a component focused on issues specifically pertinent to occupationally and environmentally-related respiratory disease.
The March 27 Respiratory Disease course will focus on inhalational syndromes, asbestos and silica-caused lung disease, occupational asthma, the pathology of occupational and environmental lung disease, emerging occupational lung diseases, occupational lung cancer, and vocational factors in sleep-disturbed breathing.
The March 28–29 OEM Update will review rhinitis, perchlorates, occupational hearing loss, hobby exposures as occupational and environmental risks, indoor air issues, selected travel medicine topics, health effects of mold, Parkinsonism and other neurodegenerative disorders, occupational zoonoses, the agricultural environment, and occupational medicine in the current biopharmaceutical industry.

Washington Occupational Health Associates (WOHA) is sponsoring its biannual Occupational Hearing Conservation Course on May 28–30, 2008, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. This Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation course encompasses all three days for certification, or a single day (May 29) for re-certification. The fall offering of this course will be held November 3–5 with the re-certification course scheduled on November 4. These courses are designed to certify health and safety personnel to test hearing and to establish hearing conservation programs in compliance with OSHA requirements.
