The Delphi technique is a systematic, iterative method for obtaining information and group consensus. It is an inexpensive, objective, and nonthreatening way to determine educational needs. The information obtained by a Delphi technique is generated by the participants and processed by the staff development educator. The final product is a list of educational needs and the corresponding importance associated with each one. With this information, the staff development educator may plan and justify educational programs with increased confidence regarding benefit and outcome.
