Oral hygiene day celebrations

Oral Hygiene Day was celebrated on August 1, 2022, by 98 dental colleges across India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G. B. Shankwalkar, the Doyen of Indian Periodontics and Ex-Professor and Dean of Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai. This year’s theme was “Gum Care for Tooth Care.” The objective of the weeklong event was to spread awareness about the maintenance of oral hygiene through various activities. Digital creative and videos bearing the messages of the President and Secretary of the Indian Society of Periodontology along with a PowerPoint presentation on “Management of Dentinal Hypersensitivity” were shared across all institutes for the purpose of widespread awareness. Institutes conducted road shows, street plays, dental checkup camps, mass-scale brushing, and many other activities to spread awareness among the population. Other activities included sketching, questionnaire survey, memes, reels, smile competitions, slogan writing, quiz competitions, guest lectures, e-poster presentations, rangoli competitions, flash mob, face painting, and radio talks. GlaxoSmithKline India Ltd. provided toothpaste samples to all the participating colleges and plaque detection devices to 30 colleges for use during their dental screening camps [Figures 1-6].

Professional Enrichment Programme, Tamil Nadu

A 1-day national level (ISP-IDA) Indian Society of Periodontology- Indian Dental Association Professional Enrichment Programme named “PERIOSAKTHI” was held on August 29, 2022, in the auditorium of Adhiparasakthi Dental College and Hospital, Melmaruvathur. This event was conducted by the ISP Chennai study group in collaboration with the IDA Madras branch. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. Ramesh. The scientific program comprised six lectures on interdisciplinary dentistry. The event saw the attendance of over 118 delegates from neighboring dental colleges. The program was granted 5 Dental Council of India (DCI) credit points by Tamil Nadu State Dental Council [Figures 7 and 8].

ISP integrate Bhilai

ISP integrate 2022 was held on September 10th and 11th, 2022, at Rungta College of Dental Sciences and Research, Bhilai, in collaboration with ISP study group Johar. The event saw the attendance of over 170 delegates. Dr. Karthik Krishna M. (Dean, RCDSR), Dr. Vaibhav Tiwari (President ISP Johar), Dr. Shailendra Chaturvedi (Secretary ISP Johar), Dr. Kuldip Singh Sangha (Treasurer, ISP Johar), Dr. Manish Khatri (Acting President, ISP), Dr. Harpreet Singh Grover (Secretary ISP), Dr. Kaustabh Thakare, and Dr. Subhash Chandra Raj shared the dais on day 1. The program continued with four guest lectures, poster and paper presentations, and certificate distribution. On day 2, Dr. Ashish Jain, Dr. Rajat Sehgal, and Dr. Vivek Lath presented lectures on basic concepts of implants, followed by hands-on course and certificate distribution [Figures 9 and 10].

ISP-World Heart Day Celebration

World Heart Day (WHD) was celebrated on September 29, 2022, with the aim to increase awareness of cardiovascular diseases and how to control them to negate their global impact. The theme for the event was “Gum Care for Heart Care.” Thirty-two dental institutes across India were selected to host the Professional Enrichment Programme on WHD organized by the Indian Society of Periodontology and sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline India Ltd. The Indian Society of Periodontology provided each college with toothpaste samples, digital blood pressure measuring devices, and digital thermometers for the smooth execution of the WHD celebration at their respective institutes. All institutes celebrated WHD with full enthusiasm and patients were educated regarding the prevention of cardiovascular disease as well as how gum health/disease influences the same through free checkup camps, street plays, lectures, and open discussions between doctors and patients [Figures 11 and 12].
