  • » Proximal junctional kyphosis, a complication associated with both pediatric and adult spinal deformity surgical procedures, is defined as a proximal junctional sagittal Cobb angle of ≥10° or a proximal junctional sagittal Cobb angle at least 10° greater than the preoperative measurement.
  • » Several risk factors for the development of proximal junctional kyphosis have been identified using univariate analysis, but many of these factors lose significance when examined by multivariate analysis.
  • » Future proximal junctional kyphosis studies should include longer follow-up periods and patients with both asymptomatic and symptomatic proximal junctional kyphosis or proximal junctional failure and should examine patient risk factors, spinopelvic parameters, and specific instrumentation techniques.
