JBJS Open Access (JBJS OA) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal from the publishers of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. The mission of this continuously published online-only journal is to provide a steady flow of comprehensive, objective, and evidence-based basic-science and clinical studies that have the potential to impact orthopaedic care worldwide. JBJS OA maintains the same standards of excellence that are the hallmarks of all products in the JBJS portfolio. JBJS OA expands the capacity of JBJS to meet the evolving needs of the orthopaedic community by disseminating knowledge on an open-access platform that is free of charge for all readers.
Co-edited by Eng Hin Lee, MD, FRCSC, and Robin R. Richards, MD, FRCSC, along with a distinguished Editorial Board, each issue of JBJS OA provides the orthopaedic community with essential reading on the latest advances in orthopedic surgery. JBJS OA welcomes manuscripts on basic science and clinical studies on the musculoskeletal system as well as on orthopedic education and training.
Contributions from anywhere in the world are welcome and are considered on their merits. The manuscript must be written in English and should be submitted as outlined in the Instructions for Authors. Manuscripts are subject to blinded peer review by experts and a final decision by the Co-Editors. Papers are judged by the quality and relevance of the work. Our aim is to publish the best material available from anywhere in the world.

Indexing
As a brand-new journal, JBJS OA is not yet included in PubMed Central or PubMed. As soon as the required application criteria are met, the journal will apply for indexing in these databases. When accepted, indexing and article deposits will occur retroactively, and content will be deposited to PubMed Central immediately upon publication.

Instructions for Potential Authors
Authors who wish to submit an article for publication in JBJS OA should review our Instructions for Authors. All submitted manuscripts will undergo peer review, and the decision to accept will depend on the outcome of the review process.
Authors retain copyright to their articles. After an article has been accepted, all authors will be required to sign a License to Publish form and upload that form to the JBJS OA manuscript submission system. The article will then be published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution‐NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND) license or under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY) license.

Leadership
Editor-in-Chief: Marc F. Swiontkowski, MD
Marc Swiontkowski, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon with University of Minnesota Physicians and is a Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is CEO Emeritus of TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. He is the past president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the American Orthopaedic Association. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He served as a Deputy Editor for The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery from 1996 through 2014 and as the Editor of JBJS Case Connector from 2011 through 2016.
Co-Editor: Eng Hin Lee, MD, FRCSC
Eng Hin Lee, MD, FRCSC, is a Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Program Leader of the Tissue Engineering Program, National University of Singapore. He did his undergraduate medical education at the University of Western Ontario, after which he completed his postgraduate orthopaedic training at the University of Toronto teaching hospitals. He is a past president of the ASEAN Orthopaedic Association and the Asia Pacific Paediatric Orthopaedic Society and is currently a member of the International Paediatric Orthopaedic Think Tank. He is a charter member of the International Editorial Board and has served as a Deputy Editor for The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery since 2011.
Co-Editor: Robin R. Richards, MD, FRCSC
Robin Richards, MD, FRCSC, is Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto and a Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Richards is Vice Chair–Clinical of the University of Toronto Department of Surgery, Chair of the Awards and Internal Evaluation Committees, Past Secretary-Treasurer of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, and Past Deputy Editor for the Upper Extremity of The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. Dr. Richards is a member of the Ontario, Canadian, and American Orthopaedic Associations and is Past President of the Canadian and Ontario Orthopaedic Associations. Dr. Richards was Head of the Department of Surgery and Co-Director of the Operating Room and Related Services at Sunnybrook HSC from 2001 to 2012. Dr. Richards maintains an active surgical practice focusing on upper-extremity reconstruction.
