JBJS Essential Surgical Techniques Awards

JBJS Essential Surgical Techniques (EST)  and The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS) are pleased to announce two annual awards in the amount of $500 USD each. One award will be for the best Subspecialty Procedure (SP) article, and the other will be for the best Key Procedures (KP) video published each calendar year.

How to Enter

Orthopaedic surgeons worldwide are invited to submit Subspecialty Procedure articles to JBJS Essential Surgical Techniques using the SP submission template. For Key Procedures videos, authors are strongly encouraged to submit a storyboard prior to filming. Corresponding authors will be asked during the submission process whether they wish their article or video to be considered for the award.

Techniques articles and videos must be submitted via the JBJS Essential Surgical Techniques Editorial Manager submission site and adhere to the requirements outlined in the Instructions for Authors.

What Makes a Good Surgical Technique Article?

Key criteria for a high-quality EST article include, but are not limited to:

  • Clearly written step-by-step instructions (for SP papers) or a comprehensive storyboard (for KP video submissions)
  • High-resolution, instructive video clips
  • Clinical relevance of technique or procedure

Questions regarding the contest and submission process can be sent to editorial@surgicaltechniques.org.

Winner Selection

Winning authors will be notified by February each following year. Their achievement will be recognized online as well as during the JBJS reception at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
