To the Subscribers,

There has been a modification of rehabilitation guidelines worldwide to prevent illness since the onset of the SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic. Although the pandemic has changed the face of health care, with many physical therapy clinics using virtual, online platforms, this was not possible with aquatic physical therapy (APT). This created a need for alternative measures for APT and fostered the impetus to examine the impact of the pandemic on APT practice.

In this issue, the JAPT is highlighting an article by Melinda Nygren Pierce, PT, MS, CEEAA, ATRIC Ai Chi Plus, focusing on the use of Ai Chi as a promising community aquatic intervention for people with long-COVID. In the next issue, the JAPT will revisit the pandemic with an article focusing on the results of the anonymous survey sent to all members of the Academy of Aquatic Physical Therapy earlier this year. The purpose of this survey was to identify and better understand the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the APT profession and to obtain information to assist in the development of procedures that may guide future APT practice.

We would love to hear from you! If you have stories or experiences you would like to share regarding the pandemic and its effect on your aquatic practice, please feel free to submit your letter to the editors so we can share your thoughts with our readers. To submit a letter to the editors, please send your letter to either [email protected] or [email protected].

We wish you all a joyful and healthy holiday season and waves of happiness in 2023!
