“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit”

Excellence is a talent or quality, which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards. Ophthalmology in India today has reached a level that is considered to be on par with the best in the world. Moreover, a lot of the credit for this goes to the founding ophthalmology institutes in India that have been imparting quality training and education to ophthalmology trainees over the years. One such institute is Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences (RPC), which has become synonymous with excellence in ophthalmology. As a place that combines opportunities to participate in world-class research, top-notch surgical training, and abundant exposure clinical ophthalmology, RPC is one of the most sought after centers for ophthalmology residency.

RPC has over the years not only prepared residents and trainees for ophthalmology practice but also groomed generations of leaders in ophthalmology in the country. Every position in the administrative hierarchy of the All India Ophthalmological Society – be it the president, the secretary, or even that of the Editor of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology – RPC alumni have always been at the forefront of leading ophthalmology in India and giving it a new direction. Furthermore, alumni of RPC have taken forward ophthalmology by initiating world-class ophthalmology institutes themselves, thereby creating the domino effect that has benefited millions.

It is an honor for me, as the editor of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology to be able to bring forth an issue that celebrates one of the premier ophthalmology institutes in India. This issue has state-of-the-art reviews from authors from RPC who are leaders in their fields. As RPC celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology congratulates all RPC alumni. Here's to the hope that Indian Ophthalmology is taken to greater heights in the future.
