My friend and colleague, Marie Plante, drew my attention to the fact that currently, the positions of president of the most distinguished societies of gynecologic oncology are held by women such as Barbara A. Goff (SGO). Vesna I. Kesic (ESGO), Lynette A. Denny (IGCS), and Diane Miller (GOC) are leading our members worldwide. They “stand on the shoulders of” past female presidents such as the late Nina Einhorn and Eve Wiltshaw, and Nicoletta Colombo, Gillian M. Thomas, Carolyn D. Runowitz, Beth Y. Karlan, and more officers of national societies as well.
Women’s leading role in obstetrics and gynecology in general and gynecologic oncology specifically is no longer “breaking news” and it is almost politically incorrect to be mentioned.
However, as we have just ushered in a new year, it is the most beautiful opportunity to wish our women members of all societies—national and international—to continue the trend of their involvement in leadership positions and guide us with their wisdom and skill toward better care of women’s cancer, improvements in care delivery, and advancements in clinical and basic research.
We wish our readers worldwide a happy new year from the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer editorial office.
