Abstract

This article examines the special legal and administrative issues for health care management that are posed by the recently enacted Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Following a question-and-answer format, the article outlines the basic provisions of the law and answers what will likely be the most commonly faced administrative questions. It will be seen that FMLA issues and administration will be of significant concern to managers at all levels in health fare organizations for some time to come. The conclusion of the article outlines a series of administrative steps that health care managers should undertake to proactively administer the federal leave law.
