An important phase of health physics is the utilization and development of chemical and instrumental techniques for the accurate measurement of the radionuclide content of various types of samples. This paper describes broadly the newer developments in these techniques, including the utilization of standards and the validation of analytical results (quality control). Advantages and deficiencies of the various techniques are noted and predictions of future developments are made, based on present needs and promising discoveries and applications.
