Issue 5, 2021 of JHTR is a topical issue on TBI and Opioids. Dr. Rachel Sayko Adams, the topical editor, describes in the preface to the issue how the opioid epidemic has been particularly burdensome for people with TBIs. A 3-phase "cascade of vulnerability" starts with a greater likelihood of being prescribed opioids, which is followed by a greater likelihood to convert from acute to long-term use, misuse or overdose. In the third phase, persons with TBI subsequently have greater challenges during treatment of opioid use disorders. The articles in this issue primarily focus on the first two phases of vulnerability. We hope you enjoy the topical issue articles as well as the other excellent manuscripts in this issue.
