ACOG Committee Opinion No. 770: Uterine Morcellation for Presumed Leiomyomas: Correction

In “ACOG Committee Opinion No. 770: Uterine Morcellation for Presumed Leiomyomas” from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,1 there are errors on pages e238 and e245. On page e238, in the “Recommendations and Conclusions” section, the first full bullet point in the second column, which reads, “Based on the 2017 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) report, which used the largest and most comprehensive dataset and rigorous analytic methods to determine estimates of prevalence of leiomyosarcoma, patients may be informed that the risk of unexpected leiomyosarcoma may range from less than 1 in 770 surgeries to 1 in 10,000 surgeries for presumed symptomatic leiomyomas” is incorrect. The correct sentence is “Based on the 2017 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) report, which used the largest and most comprehensive dataset and rigorous analytic methods to determine estimates of prevalence of leiomyosarcoma, patients may be informed that the risk of unexpected leiomyosarcoma may range from 1 in 770 surgeries to less than 1 in 10,000 surgeries.”

On page e245, first column, the fourth full sentence reads, “However, based on the 2017 AHRQ report, which used the largest and most comprehensive dataset and rigorous analytic methods to determine estimates of prevalence of leiomyosarcoma, patients may be informed that the risk of unexpected leiomyosarcoma may range from less than 1 in 770 surgeries to 1 in 10,000 surgeries for presumed symptomatic leiomyomas (32).” The correct sentence is “However, based on the 2017 AHRQ report, which used the largest and most comprehensive dataset and rigorous analytic methods to determine estimates of prevalence of leiomyosarcoma, patients may be informed that the risk of unexpected leiomyosarcoma may range from 1 in 770 surgeries to less than 1 in 10,000 surgeries for presumed symptomatic leiomyomas (32).”
