The retracted article is being replaced in this issue by the following: Moaddab A, Dildy GA, Brown HL, Bateni ZH, Belfort MA, Sangi-Haghpeykar H, et al. Health Care Disparity and Pregnancy-Related Mortality in the United States, 2005–2014. Obstet Gynecol 2018;131:707–12.
In the 2016 article, the authors used statistical data collected by the National Center for Health Statistics and made available via CDC WONDER. The terms of data use for CDC WONDER stipulate that, for sub-national geography, users may not present or publish death counts of 9 or fewer or death rates based on counts of 9 or fewer. The author who obtained the data agreed to this stipulation. In the above-mentioned 2016 article, however, the authors report on pregnancy-related mortality on a state-by-state basis, even when counts of 9 or fewer were noted. Due to this violation of the terms of data use for CDC WONDER, the Editors are retracting the 2016 article. The authors acknowledge and regret the reporting of these restricted small-state data.
