This study evaluates the cytotoxic affect of serum from patients with progressive squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix and adenocarcinoma of the ovary prior to treatment. The cytotoxic ability of six specific rabbit antisera prepared by immunizing rabbits with fresh tissue homogenates of adenocarcinoma of the ovary were also studied and all six demonstrated a definite injurious affect. Twelve of the 20 patients with advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix and 5 of the 8 patients with advanced adenocarcinoma of the ovary also illustrated a definite cytocidal serum activity. Explanations for the concomitant presence of cytotoxic antibodies and progressive disease are suggested.
