Obstetrics & Gynecology: September 1972 - Volume 40 - Issue 3 - p 391-393 Free Abstract The aorta, between the origins of the renal arteries, was ligated completely in Wistar virgin rats which were subsequently mated. Significantly fewer live fetuses were delivered per litter at days 21 and 22 of gestation than among nonligated controls. Also, oxygen utilization rates (QO3) in placental and fetal brain and liver tissue from aortic-ligated rats tended to be lower than in corresponding tissues from normal controls when incubated under in vitro conditions. However, the difference from the normal, in average QO3 values, was significant only in fetal liver. © 1972 The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
