Col (MC), USA, FACOGAuthor Information From the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service, 5th General Hospital, APO New York Obstetrics & Gynecology: September 1969 - Volume 34 - Issue 3 - p 322-325 Free Abstract Judged by growth of organisms in cultures, nearly all of 100 parturients had six different types of vaginal bacteria. The bacterial content of the vagina did not increase during labor, in spite of vaginal or rectal examinations (kept to a minimum for this investigation). Patients whose vagina harbored pathogenic bacteria did not necessarily experience clinical infection postpartum. © 1969 The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
