Breech Labor and Delivery in the Primigravida

Abstract

A group of 100 primigravidas with breech presentation at term were managed prospectively according to a preconceived plan. Ten percent of the group had cesarean sections; the perinatal mortality was 4%. Specific criteria are set forth which determine whether such a patient should be managed expectantly, given a trial of labor, or subjected to elective cesarean section. Guidelines for the use of oxytocin for the induction or stimulation of labor are outlined.
