Letter to the Editor
Dramatic Relief for Myofascial Pain
I am writing in response to the article, “Myofascial Pain Easily Diagnosed, Simply Treated,” by Richard Pescatore, DO. (EMN. 2019;42:17; http://bit.ly/2QICasP.) I find that injecting these trigger points with 5-10 mL 0.25% bupivacaine along with 20-40 mg methylprednisolone results in lasting and often dramatic pain relief.

Dr. Pescatore responds: Thanks for your letter. I do sometimes add steroids, but this comes with the risk of permanent skin dimpling, which is worth discussing with the patient, and may tip the risk/benefit scale for some.Copyright © 2020 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved.
