ConCert is Painful but Helpful

    Editor:

Good lord! What a sane, rational, tempered, and thoughtful piece from Reginald Duling, MD, about why 10-year ABEM recertification is a reasonable expectation of emergency physicians. (“Merit Badge Medicine and the Insult of Board Recertification,” EMN 2017;39[2A]; http://bit.ly/2kl0SPp.)

I'm certainly biased as the director of the National Emergency Medicine Board Review course, but I can tell you that the investment made in preparing for the exam results in a restoking of knowledge that has been told to me by countless physicians over the years. Is recertifying a little painful? Yes, but our patients deserve that we “put it on the line” every 10 years. Thank you, Dr. Duling.
