Letter to the Editor
The study by Waxman, et al. that Dr. Carlo Reyes references in his article studies a particular demographic — fee-for-service Medicare (over 65). (EMN 2015;37:20; http://bit.ly/1Gq33Wb.)
In this age group, our radar goes up, and we tend to have a low threshold to scan, admit, and (over?) order because of poor histories, abdominal pain in poor historians, poor physical exams, poor support at home (nursing homes included), etc. We must study the rest of the population to truly show that tort reform does not deter defensive medicine.
