Letter to the Editor
It would be interesting to see how much violence against doctors and nurses gets reported. (“Violence against ED Staff Pervasive but Alarmingly Underreported,” EMN 2012;34:12.) Some discrepancy does exist on what patients are allowed to get away with when they come in as psych patients, for example.
I had an experience where a patient brought in by family for suicidal threats assaulted staff. When police were called, some thought charges could not be pressed because the patient was not cleared by psychiatry yet. That was false, but it wasn't so obvious to the officers who first arrived to the call.
