“Theses for the Door of Emergency Medicine” was a great piece! I agree 100 percent with every thesis, and am glad someone had the guts to put it in print! It doesn't surprise me that the author is Dr. Edwin Leap, whose column I always read (and have commented on in the past). (EMN 2011;33:20; http://bit.ly/ThesesLeap.)
After practicing full-time emergency medicine for 32 years (including my residency at the University of Cincinnati), I finally switched to the much less stressful urgent care a few months ago. If the problems that have been growing in hospitals over the years had been addressed and corrected, I probably would have kept my place in the ED for another five to 10 years.
Hopefully the powers-that-be will listen to Dr. Leap to try to correct the system problems. (Good luck!)
Keep up the good work.
