I read Dr. Edwin Leap's articles every time. They are direct, to the point, and sum up how we emergency physicians feel. I just read “I Feel So Dirty and Used!” (EMN 2009;31[7]:14.)

I wholeheartedly agree, but my question is: What is there to do about it? I think the answer is “nothing.” It's a tangled web. EDs are crowded because people come in for bronchitis, ankle sprains, and free drugs and because their doctors (usually via a recorded phone message) told them to come to the ED.
