The 5th European Conference on Oncology Pharmacy took place as a face-to-face exchange between colleagues in Hamburg 2022.

The pandemic delayed the personal exchange for more than 2 years. It was a special feeling to finally meet new or known colleagues again after 4 years and to finally be able to address them directly. The poster exhibition, which promoted interesting discussions and intensive study of research results during the 3 days of the congress in all breaks between the diverse lectures, served this purpose above all.

Even if the world sometimes seems difficult, there are principles that make living together on our planet possible. In the 1948 Charter of Human Rights, § 1 reads, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and shall treat one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”

We feel bound to this and the other paragraphs. For our European Society of Oncology Pharmacy, its members and colleagues from other professions, this is especially true because all of them are dedicated to helping sick people and especially patients with cancer. Especially today, we hold that when states override the common good of individuals and commit inhumane acts, this does not mean that we deviate from our principles of unprejudiced humanity.

This includes practical action. Among other things, we gave everyone the opportunity to participate in our Scientific Congress and exchange ideas about common goals. Human beings from 64 countries be united and leave no one behind.

We have compiled the scientific information condensed into text in this publication to give everyone, not only the over 500 participants but also all interested colleagues in the world, a summary overview of the breadth of topics and to motivate everyone to be there in person at the 6th ECOP in 2 years' time.

ECOP 5 was an event of great importance for all ESOP members since the last ECOP has been held in 2018, Nantes, France. After 4 years, it was finally time to meet again in person at the ECOP 5. In these difficult times of the coronavirus pandemic, with so many digital or hybrid meetings, we choose the option of a real live event. That time again for human interaction and time for personal exchange and inspiration with colleagues from all over the world.

ECOP congress offers a tremendous opportunity for exchange, the sharing of knowledge and debate between its nearly 4,000 members, colleagues, and partners from 64 countries worldwide in all fields of oncology pharmacy.

The scientific program included over 30 hours of advanced education with keynote lectures, practical and clinical lecture sessions, workshops, scientific symposia, corner presentations, and poster sessions. Joint sessions, with SIOP, SIOG, EAPC, and ECPC, highlighted cooperation with other professional organizations, promoting the exchange of knowledge.

In three days, 30th June to 2nd July, we had the pleasure to welcome over 500 participants and more than 50 speakers from 58 countries.

156 abstracts representing 32 countries were selected by the Scientific Committee for poster presentations. A few number of abstracts were also selected for oral communications and posters on spotlight sessions. Scientific committee did a great and hard work.

Scientific abstracts and posters are a chance to show evaluation of professional activities and to promote scientific and research activities in oncology pharmacy. It covers all fields, including clinical pharmacy, production activities, quality management, clinical evaluations, and pharmacoeconomics. Poster exhibition is also a great opportunity to showcase diversity of our activities, to get inspired by the ideas of colleagues from around the world, and finally upgrade and develop new activities in our hospitals.

Considering diversity and scientific level of abstracts, we can say we had a successful ECOP 5 congress 2022. Thanks to all the authors.

Hoping to see you in Portugal for ECOP 2024
