Drs Boldt and Maleck present interesting and provocative data on the country of origin of invited program participants at major conferences in Europe and North America . One of the defects in their data is that it only represents a very brief time period and not trends over time. The Board of Trustees of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) has made a concerted effort to bring a greater international participation to the Society's activities. Table 1 indicates the change over time in the invited program participants. The Editor of the Society's Journal Anesthesia and Analgesia has made similar changes to the make-up of the Editorial Board.
