In Brief:
This study focuses on the nonaudiological determinants of CI satisfaction in postligually deaf individuals. The research considered psychological distress, stress coping strategies, and self-esteem, as well as sociodemographic and deafness-related variables. Results show that CI satisfaction is related to less frequent symptoms of depression, more positive self-esteem, and better strategies for coping with stress (e.g., less use of denial). The work suggests that psychological interventions should be included in CI rehabilitation programs.
