In Brief:
High-frequency pure-tone audiometry (HFPTA) thresholds from 125 participants, divided into three age groups (4-6, 7-9, and 10-13 yr), were measured twice within the same test session. All but the youngest group showed high test–retest reliability of HFPTA. When the data were checked against the ASHA (1994) ototoxic criteria, the three age groups (youngest to oldest) demonstrated false-positive rates of 24.6%, 10.9%, and 7.6%, respectively. Hence, the HFPTA test is a promising tool to identify hearing impairment in the extended high-frequency range (>8 kHz) for children aged 7 yr or older.
