In Brief:
To distinguish the type of hearing loss (i.e., conductive, sensorineural, or mixed), bone conduction (BC) results are necessary. However, there are few data for the brain stem auditory steady state responses (ASSRs) to BC stimuli in individuals with hearing loss. The present studies assessed multiple ASSR thresholds to BC stimuli in adults with normal hearing, masker-simulated hearing loss, and sensorineural hearing loss. Results show that multiple ASSR to BC stimuli provides a reasonably good estimate of BC behavioral thresholds and accurately distinguishes normal versus elevated BC thresholds in adults, especially between 1000 and 4000 Hz.
