In Brief:
Three books, including one online text and two volumes from the Springer Handbook of Auditory Research, are reviewed in this issue. According to Donna Quesal, both the online and paper text versions of Introduction to Speech, Language, Hearing Disorders (by Franklin Silverman) are well-organized and flexible. The online text allows the course instructor to add information to supplement the text. A text on a completely different topic, Cochlear Implants: Auditory Prostheses and Electric Hearing (edited by Zeng, Popper, and Fay), is described by Christopher Long as "an authoritative reference" that provides an overview of various aspects of cochlear implant research. In her review of Compression: From Cochlea to Cochlear Implants (edited by Bacon, Fay, and Popper), Pamela Souza reports that it is a clearly-written resource that includes an outstanding compilation of information about this topic.
