Hearing History Influences Voice Gender Perceptual Performance in Cochlear Implant Users Kovacic, Damir; Balaban, Evan Kovacic, Damir; Balaban, Evan Less Ear and Hearing. 31(6):806-814, December 2010. Abstract Abstract In Brief In Brief Favorites PDF Get Content & Permissions Abstract: In Brief: Cochlear implant users exhibit large individual variations in performance on speech perceptual tasks, and the relationship of this variation to hearing history is not understood in detail. Five historical variables (age at deafness diagnosis, age at implant activation, duration of deafness, duration of implant use, and chronological age at testing) were examined in relation to performance in two voice gender identification tasks by juvenile CI users. The results suggest that deafness duration and age at implant activation may affect dissociable aspects of auditory perceptual development.
