After organ transplantation, the presence of altered consciousness is a potentially reversible condition, but it may indicate a developing neurocatastrophe. Most concerning is neurotoxicity from immunosuppression, postoperative delirium in prior alcoholics, and possibility of a de novo central nervous system infection.
