The cellular Abl protein is nuclear; its overproduction causes growth inhibition at the G1 S border. Oncogenicity is activated by various mutations; they cause the protein to become cytoplasmic. Deletion of the SH3 domain activates oncogenicity while further mutation of the SH2 region abolishes oncogenicity. Thus Abl transforms through cellular signal pathways.
