Current Opinion in Lipidology was launched in 1990. It is one of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The field of lipidology is divided into six sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce the Section Editors for this issue.

Section Editors

Prof Nestel is currently Head of Cardiovascular Nutrition at the Baker Medical Research Institute, Melbourne. He is President of International Life Sciences Institute (Australasia). He was formerly Chief, CSIRO Division of Human Nutrition and Clinical Professor in Medicine Flinders University, Adelaide. He is a fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and has served on numerous national and international Working Parties related to establishing policies in nutrition and cardiovascular disease prevention. He received the Order of Australia for research and policy development to prevent heart disease.

He has published over 380 scientific papers dealing with nutrition, cardiovascular disease and its prevention, atherosclerosis and lipid metabolism. In recent years his main research projects dealt with the effects of nutritional interventions on arterial functions in at risk human populations.

Dr. Lichtenstein is the Stanley N. Gershoff Professor of Nutrition Science and Policy in the Gerald J. & Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy at Tufts University and Senior Scientist and Director of the Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Ageing. Dr. Lichtenstein holds a secondary appointment as Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at Tufts University School of Medicine. She joined the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Ageing in 1988. Her previous appointments were in the Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Lichtenstein is a member of the American Society of Nutritional Sciences; the American Society of Clinical Nutrition; and the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, and Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism Councils of the American Heart Association. She currently serves as vice-chair of the American Heart Association's Nutrition Committee. Dr. Lichtenstein has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Nutrition, is currently serving on the Editorial Board of Atherosclerosis, as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Lipid Research, and the Editorial Advisory Boards of the Journal of Nutrition in Clinical Care and the Tufts Health and Nutrition Letter. She served on the USDA/HHS 2000 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee and the Dietary Reference Intake Macronutrients Panel of the National Academy of Sciences' Food and Nutrition Board.
