We are pleased to introduce the first issue of Current Opinion in Epidemiology and Public Health, a literature review journal offering insightful editorials and on-the-mark invited reviews. The journal will cover key area of global health medicine and will meet the need for exploratory and multidisciplinary research. The journal is for those with an interest in epidemiology and public health and improving the health of communities worldwide. Specifically, those working in the areas of lifestyle, social and environmental epidemiology, and genetic and molecular epidemiology, with emphasis on the science of preventing disease, prolonging life, and improving the health of entire populations through disease and injury prevention, and responses to disease occurrences and health threats in populations.

Current Opinion in Epidemiology and Public Health is part of the longstanding and well received Current Opinion series in clinical medicine and is dedicated to the review of recent advances in epidemiology and public health. This reader-friendly, broad-based resource empowers those working in the various disciplines to put to good use high-quality clinical and basic science research from throughout the world. It will help clinicians and researchers keep up to date with the vast amount of information published in the field.

Published quarterly as an online-only journal, each issue of Current Opinion in Epidemiology and Public Health will introduce world-renowned guest editors and internationally recognized academics within the epidemiology and public health field, delivering a widespread selection of expert assessments on the latest developments from the most recent literature. Issues will focus on one to two topics, each of which will be developed under the guidance of internationally recognized experts who select topics and authors from around the world. This process will provide the reader with a critical review of recent publications in the field, highlighting the latest developments related to the section's theme as well as comprehensive annotated bibliographies. These contributions will be complemented with an editorial written by the section editors. In subsequent years, the same section topics will continue to be updated. In addition, the section editors and editorial board will add or substitute new, emerging areas of interest in epidemiology and public health.
