EDITORIAL COMMENT: PDF OnlyAnaesthesia for minimally invasive therapyCunningham, Anthony J.; Richards, William* Author Information Department of Anaesthesia, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland *Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland Abbreviations OLV—one-lung ventilation; VATS—video-assisted thoracic surgery. Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology: December 1994 - Volume 7 - Issue 6 - p 485 Buy Abstract Minimally invasive or minimal access surgery is associated with significantly less trauma than conventional surgical access. The technology required is expensive and its adoption has major implications for patient services, hospital design, operating room equipment, surgical speciality alignment, and training. Intraoperative complications are mostly due to traumatic injuries sustained during blind trocar insertion and physiological changes associated with pneumoperitoneum and patient position. © Lippincott-Raven Publishers.
