Abstract

Airway management in patients with confirmed or suspected cervical spine injury challenges even experienced trauma anesthesiologists. Appropriate care requires an understanding of the pathophysiology, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic options available. This review focuses on the evaluation and management of patients with suspected cervical spine injury. Although no particular approach has proven superior, well founded principles help to promote high quality care in these patients.
