About This Topic

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the treasure of ancient Chinese science. How to promote international dissemination of TCM and make it accepted and used by more countries is the common task facing the Chinese people. As an important part of complementary and integrative medicine (CIH), TCM has been accepted by many countries and applied in clinical practice around the world, showing its advantages and good therapeutic effect. The development of TCM in North America has become the key to the international dissemination of TCM. Researches on the development of TCM in North America, including acupuncture and moxibustion, herbal medicine, etc., can contribute to the coordinated development of TCM. 

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

• Systematic review of the development of TCM in North America
• Evolution of legislation, policies and regulations about TCM in North America
• Development of TCM and acupuncture education in North America
• Challenges and opportunities for TCM in North America response to COVID-19
• Dissemination of the translated works of TCM classics in North America
• Situation of trade in services and market access requirements of TCM products in the North America market
• Comparative study of TCM and the main medical system of the North America from the perspective of complementary and integrative medicine

​Prof. Yemeng Chen (陈业孟)​

Yemeng Chen, Ph.D. (China), Dipl. OM (NCCAOM), L.Ac., FICAE, is President of New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Chen is now also President of National Federation of Chinese TCM Organizations (NFCTCMO), Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Complementary Medicine & Alternative Healthcare, Vice Chair of World Traditional Medicine Forum, and an Executive Member of Presidium of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS). He is currently a guest professor in Shanghai, Beijing and Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Institutes of Integrative Medicine of Fudan University, and also a visiting professor in Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine and the International College of Acupuncture & Electro-Therapeutics. Dr. Chen served as Chair of the Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), Vice-Chair of New York State Acupuncture Board, and Editor-in-Chief of American Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Submission Guideline

When submitting your manuscript please select the article type “Special Issue: TCM in North America". All submissions deemed suitable to be sent for peer review will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. Once your manuscript is accept, it will go into production, and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online article collection. Article from this Special Topic will appear in different regular issues of the journal, though they will be clearly marked and branded as special topic articles.
