When puncture for the drainage of subretinal fluid is indicated, we have several methods at our disposal. Coming from the school of Prof. Weve and Prof. Amsler 25 years ago, I started detachment surgery using electrolysis with the negative pole, also called katholysis. I have tried other types of drainage techniques for various lengths of time, but I have always returned to the electrolysis needle. I feel that this is a simple and reliable method if the right instruments and the correct technique are used.
