Author on Call

The function of the “Author on Call” blog is to allow our readers and authors to interact with each other in a unique way. A few select authors will be chosen to share on the blog aspects of their papers that were especially meaningful to them personally or points that may not have made it into their published report. Readers will then have the opportunity to provide comments and questions, to which the authors will respond.

At times, as seen in our first entry, we will also post separate entries to the blog on various special topics that we feel would be informational or that we welcome your feedback on.

Impact Factor Announcement

Today I offer you an update on the 2018 journal impact factor for CANCER NURSING.  The 2018 journal impact factor is 2.022 (reflecting citations in 2018 to citable papers published in 2016 and 2017), and the 5-year journal impact factor is 2.448.  In 2018, there was a total of 3,340 cites of CANCER NURSING papers.  Papers that had the higher number of citations included one review paper regarding body image in breast cancer survivors and four original research papers that included intervention studies, cancer communication and symptom clusters.  Of note, other journals containing papers that most frequently cited papers in CANCER NURSING were both from non-nursing oncology journals and from oncology nursing journals. Of the five oncology nursing journals included in the Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate Analytics), impact factors for 2018 ranged from 1.00 to 2.022 with the top impact factor being for CANCER NURSING. Though I do not find that a journal impact factor is the single or only indicator of journal quality, I recognize that this metric has meaning in multiple academic circles and our 2018 journal impact factor does represent CANCER NURSING's presence and contribution to oncology.  And for that, I thank each of you.

My very best to each of you.
