Author on Call

The function of the “Author on Call” blog is to allow our readers and authors to interact with each other in a unique way. A few select authors will be chosen to share on the blog aspects of their papers that were especially meaningful to them personally or points that may not have made it into their published report. Readers will then have the opportunity to provide comments and questions, to which the authors will respond.

At times, as seen in our first entry, we will also post separate entries to the blog on various special topics that we feel would be informational or that we welcome your feedback on.

International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) – 39:4 (July/August) Blog Update

The 2016 edition of the International Conference on Cancer Nursing (ICCN 2016) will be here very soon. As you know by now ICCN 2016 is taking place at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers in Hong Kong, China from September 4-7, 2016. The registration is tracking very well and is on pace for a record high attendance for an ICCN.  Do not miss out on this excellent opportunity to network with international leaders in oncology nursing.

ISNCC's Conference Management Committee has assembled a fantastic program following the theme 'Embracing globalization through leadership and partnership in cancer care'. The conference features exciting global leaders in oncology nursing in keynote and plenary sessions, as well as informative symposiums, focus groups and tutorial sessions from corporate sponsors.  In addition, the conference program includes educational preconference workshops, the 'Meet Your Mentor' session, and many concurrent abstract sessions for delegates to participate in.  There will also be networking opportunities for delegates to meet with other international oncology nursing professionals. The preliminary program can be viewed here.

Myrna McLaughlin-Anderson will be giving this year's Robert Tiffany Lectureship during the Official Opening & Keynote session at ICCN 2016. Robert Tiffany was an inspiration to many nurses around the world and the intention of the named lecture is to honor those who have a similar capacity to inspire cancer nurses of today and of the future. Myrna is a Senior Advisor in the Panama Ministry of Health and is a leading figure in cancer prevention and control in Panama and Latin America.

Sanchia Aranda will present in the Distinguished Merit Award Session as she is this year's recipient of the award. She is currently the CEO of Cancer Control Australia and President-Elect of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), as well as a Past President of ISNCC. Sanchia has more than 30 years' experience in cancer control as a clinician, researcher, educator and senior healthcare administrator, and is a leading figure in international oncology nursing.

Program and registration information can be found at the ICCN 2016 webpage.  Become a member of ISNCC so that you may save $100 USD on the registration fee.

We hope to see you at ICCN 2016 in Hong Kong!

ISNCC is also very pleased to announce that ICCN 2017 will be held July 9-12, 2017 in Anaheim, California. Start thinking about your plans for next summer for ISNCC and ICCN's return to the United States.

Beyond ICCNs, ISNCC is hosting a cervical cancer workshop in Bogota, Colombia on July 8. This workshop is a continuation of workshops held in Latin America in the Fall of 2015, and builds upon ISNCC's programming in the region funded through grants provided by UICC and the American Cancer Society (ACS). Furthermore, through generous funding from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation ISNCC will be participating in a session at the 2016 World Cancer Congress in October in Paris, France and a preconference workshop at the 17th World Conference on Lung Cancer in December in Vienna, Austria.
