Abstract Abstract In Brief In Brief Favorites PDF Get Content & Permissions Abstract: In Brief: Gallstone ileus management has been controversial due to the limited number of reported cases. We present a large-scale 6-year retrospective review of the National Inpatient Sample database to better elucidate the incidence of this disease, and the trends of its management and outcomes. Enterotomy with stone extraction alone was independently associated with lower mortality rates than fistula closure or bowel resection.
