In Brief:
Using novel techniques to assess preoperative computerized tomography (CT) scans, we quantified core muscle size. Core muscle size correlated with postoperative morbidity, mortality, and costs following major elective general and vascular surgery. The techniques used to assess preoperative CT scans, namely analytic morphomics, may help surgeons to better understand patient risk.
