COVID-19 Moving Forward

Annals of Surgery remains proud of our contributions to the dissemination of new data, guidelines, and opinions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Recently as we have changed the focus of our efforts on how we adapt to life with COVID in the "new normal" of surgical practice, education, and research.  After having provided an expedited review for over 400 manuscript submissions and fast-tracked into on-line publication over 60 papers, we are going to continue to evolve the review process with a change in the focus to the future.  We will continue to provide an expedited review for Brief Clinical Reports and Surgical Perspective articles that we feel would provide immediate impact.  However, large clinical reports, systematic reviews, or even review articles on the COVID experience and other related original manuscripts may undergo our full peer-review.  We will selectively expedite the publication of such papers in the print journal.  We anticipate the usual stringent Annals peer-review process with our usual acceptance rate of approximately 12% in the selection of manuscripts as we go forward.

As I have said in the past, that we all still have a lot to learn about this disease and look forward to receiving new and innovative findings from our authors and sharing them with our readership.
