June Issue and Journal Club
The June, 2013 issue of Annals of Surgery contains 2 features with accompanying editorials, 1 review, 2 randomized controlled trials, and 21 additional original articles. The first feature reports the 5-year results after repair of infected abdominal wall defects with biologic mesh. The second confirms that cardiorespiratory fitness predicts mortality and hospital length of stay in the elderly after elective surgery.
The moderator for the June Journal Club is Dr. Suresh "Mitu" Agarwal, Jr., who is Chief of the Section of Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, Burn and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. The featured article is  Importance of Perioperative Glycemic Control in General Surgery by Steve Kwon, MD, MPH, Rachel Thompson, MD, Patchen Dellinger, MD, David Yanez, PhD, Ellen Farrohki, MD, and David Flum, MD, MPH. It appeared in the January, 2013 issue of Annals of Surgery. It can be accessed for free by anyone who wishes to participate in the journal club.
