Call for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Submissions to

Anesthesia & Analgesia and A&A Practice

Given the recent emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and the ensuing worldwide, widespread human-to-human transmission of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a pandemic status for this virus and virus-related disease.

COVID-19 remains a rapidly evolving and thus fluid disease. However, what is clear is the tremendous adverse impact COVID-19 is having on the health and well-being of the world's population.

In the absence of timely, valid, and pertinent information, many clinicians worldwide are inadequately informed and insufficiently prepared to help manage this new disease.

Anesthesia & Analgesia and A&A Practice are committed to assisting our audience in addressing the current COVID-19 pandemic. We have thus undertaken the following steps:

1. We have commissioned a series of Special Articles that will be focused on these 6 most COVID-19 relevant content areas in our Journal: Global Health; Critical Care and Resuscitation; Patient Safety; Healthcare Economics, Policy and Organization; Patient Blood Management; and Basic Science.

2. We will utilize our continuously published A&A Practice platform for any descriptive studies related to COVID-19. We encourage authors to submit descriptive manuscripts related to the management of COVID-19 to A&A Practice. Please include the term "COVID-19" in your manuscript title and in your cover letter.

3. We will utilize our Anesthesia & Analgesia platform for comparative original research trials and outcomes studies, narrative reviews, and eventually, systematic reviews and meta-analyses related to COVID-19. On a selective basis, we will consider additional Special Article, along with The Open Mind submissions related to COVID-19. Please include the term "COVID-19" in your manuscript title and in your cover letter.

4. We are temporarily expanding the scope of our Anesthesia & Analgesia Letter to the Editor format to allow for timely communication of urgent, independent clinical and other disease management observations related to COVID-19.

To facilitate rapid publication, submitted manuscripts that are focused on COVID-19 will undergo fast-track review, and if accepted, they will be published online as soon as possible.

These COVID-19 related papers will be immediately made available as free access content and widely disseminated via our Journal website and PubMed.

Submissions can be made through Editorial Manager to Anesthesia & Analgesia or A&A Practice
