Pig ear pet treats linked to Salmonella outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and state authorities are jointly investigating 143 human cases of multidrug-resistant Salmonella infection linked to pig ear pet treats. So far, several strains of Salmonella associated with the treats have been reported in 35 states. Testing is ongoing to confirm the origin of the Salmonella fingerprint. The CDC and FDA advise consumers to place any pig ear treats in a secure container before disposing of them, thoroughly wash their hands, and disinfect any surface that may have been in contact with the treats.
