AJN The American Journal of Nursing. 108(12):62-71, December 2008
This video features a patient diagnosed with dementia and living independently with his partner, yet requiring several readmissions for pneumonia. The frequent admissions prompt further investigation and screening for executive dysfunction using three brief tests: Royal’s clock drawing test (CLOX), the Controlled Oral Word Association Test , and the Trail Making Test – all of which are demonstrated by an expert clinician and staff nurse. An interdisciplinary team develops a plan of care based on the assessment findings, and faces difficult challenges in the process.
